Internet Trust does not operate a code of practice nor do we insist on the adoption of any trading policies other than conformity with appropriate legislation Our audit and certification process is based on a straightforward, common sense approach that concentrates on the key issues of consumer concern.

This enables us to complete the approval process quickly and (usually) with no further input from the website operator after completing the quick online application form. Every application is treated in strict confidence and the names of failed applicants are not listed or in any way made public.

We check the following, and provide free help to you throughout the process

Identity

• What organisation is the domain name registered to?
• What organisation is the applicant?
• What organisation does the website invite contact with?
• Is the applicant an organisation that is registered with the appropriate government entity?

Identity

• Does the website provide telephone number, address and email address?
• Do these contact methods work?

Security

• Does the website have secure pages where sensitive personal data is transmitted or payment transaction takes place? Is this provided by a recognised third party SSL provider / Certificate Authority?

• Does the website make clear its intentions regarding the use of personal data?
• Can the user refuse the use of his / her personal data for direct marketing purposes?
• Does the trader provide an opt-out mechanism in any subsequent email communications?
• Does it work?

Terms & Conditions

• Products and services must be accurately described and the total price to be charged , including additional charges such as vat, delivery and packing costs, must be clearly shown before the consumer is required to confirm the order.
• Policies for cancellation, returns and refunds must be fully and clearly explained and comply with relevant legislation (in particular Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000)

Content

• We will refuse approval on explicit adult sites, other sites of a dubious nature, gambling or auction sites. The programme is not suitable for web logs and similar personal websites.
